Children of Virtue and Vengeance is the second in Tomi Adeyemi’s Legacy of Orisha series.
Overall, I gave this book 4 stars. I enjoyed it, despite some questionable plotting. The characters hooked me from the start.
I discovered this book when I read Save the Cat (a novel writing guide) and it used the first book in this series Children of Blood and Bone as an example of how to create beats in a story. Since book one acted as a spoiler and I knew the end, I decided to start with book two. But the three page spoiler was the reason I was hooked. I wanted to read about what happened next. Although this book will be on my top 10 fiction books of 2024 it’s only there because it’s early in 2024. I didn’t think the moment in the novel when Amari went full Daenerys made sense to the plot and what I knew about the character. I’ll be interested to see what happens in the next book, as there was definitely unfinished business.
Overall, still a fun and engaging story worth reading. It’s also worth noting this is a YA novel. If you aren’t into reading young characters, it might not be for you.
